TOC_ Total Organic Carbons
Total Organic Carbon (TOC) is the measure of the level of organic molecules or contaminants in purified water. It’s an analytic technique for organizations to understand whether the water they are using is pure enough for their processes. All water, no matter how pure, contains some carbon materials according to their treatment & remaining impurities.
Typical acceptable range of TOC may be up to 25 ppm for drinking water (according to the regulatory Compliance authority of state/territory)
Higher amount of Organic compounds or Carbon in water may results in growth of microbes as it will be used as media/food for them. So TOC is much important in order to control water pollution & bacterial growth in potable water, as it could harm both human & environment.
To reduce TOC, Coupling of two or more processes like Reverse Osmosis/ion-exchange, coupled with UV treatment, is used.
